The first Chat for GenAI Accelerator Demo Day was held on June 25th, showcasing innovative chat services developed by the ten organisations selected for the programme. The virtual event highlighted the transformative power of Generative AI and Chat to advance global education, health, and economic mobility.
Over the past seven weeks, the organisations selected for the Accelerator developed and refined their AI-enabled chat solutions to advance their work with the support of expert mentors, a robust curriculum and technical resources from OpenAI and Turn.io. The curriculum covered areas including GenAI basics, ethics, go-to-market strategies, and the future of GenAI and Chat for social impact.
The Chat for GenAI Demo Day was well attended by over 160 Chat for Impact community members.
Pippa Yeats, Co-Founder at Turn.io highlighted the collaborative nature of the GenAI Accelerator "The GenAI accelerator has been a collaborative effort between Turn.io, OpenAI, and The Agency Fund. Our mission at Turn.io is to power life-improving conversations, enabling organisations to scale access to trusted information, empathic support, and vital resources. Our Chat for Impact programme has been a cornerstone for delivering on this mission, and provides a platform for organisations to develop and scale impactful chat solutions to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. This year’s Chat for GenAI Accelerator brought together a diverse group to harness the power of Generative AI and WhatsApp to create deeply impactful solutions, and we are grateful to OpenAI and The Agency Fund for their support in making it possible.”
Alex Nawar, Global Affairs at OpenAI, also addressed attendees at the event and underscored the importance of local expertise and human-centred design "Our mission at OpenAI is to build AI that benefits all of humanity. While we focus on building the best frontier AI models, we know that making a positive global impact requires frontline organisations that understand local communities. Our partnership with Turn.io and The Agency Fund is enabling the development of AI-powered chat solutions that have the potential to reach communities at scale and improve many lives."
Lieze Langford, Turn.io’s Head of Accelerators, expressed the profound impact of the program before inviting each of the participating organisations to share their demo - "While preparing the demos for today with each of these incredible organisations it became emotional for me because the work we have been doing here is not just technically advanced and inspiring, but is positively improving people’s lives on a global scale."
